So I know that I have been slacking on the keeping up with this thing but here is a general recap at the end of the season for those who would like to keep up with me.

I finished out work at the Goldminer’s Daughter washing dishes. It was by far the best thing that I have done it quite some time. Having a job that really just requires that you show up, bust ass and leave everything there at the end of the night was exactly what I needed. The job also allowed for me to acquire over a 100 days of skiing and many numerous chances to get better at it.

As some, maybe most of you have seen I have been doing some shooting in the Alta slackcountry and I do have some clothes on for some photos. I just hope that I have gotten the ball rolling for something next year. It is amazing how easy the side/slack/backcountry is to access from Alta.

Welp I should add a video or some pictures but that has been deem to normal for todays blogging culture so if you want to see picture of me you can use this magical thing called google… I might add a video in the next few days because the powdah skiing the last few days at Alta was awesome but then again I might not and horde it for myself….BUWHAHAHAHA!

if anyone is actually reading this then I am doing what I should be doing waiting fot the lifts to open… Here is a quick recap of what has happened in the last few weeks: got a job at gmd, skied pow. With many SLC locals the minute the snow starts flying the drool begins to roll out of their respective mouths, dreaming of deep pow and wicked good times with friends. As soon as the snow pack allows it many (myself included) run for the local resorts to slide on the white fluffy stuff, or jib brah!

Don’t get me wrong I think that anything that happens on two sticks sliding on snow at some point is awesome but I was raised to make turns and spend my days on a never ending quest for that next deep turn. It is a horrible addiction that is filled with sore thighs, smile-itis, and stories that always relay a smile quickly to the storytellers face.

Look Ma! My Dental Hygiene is better than most due to a high intake of frozen crystailized H2O!

Well with a crew that had already sessioned the day before (Simon- the ginger, Aron- Accountabillabuddy, and the Knucledragger) we knew what we were up for, good turns on a pretty solid base. We left the car at about 9:dirtyish and began the hike. We headed up the hill with about 30 other people that showed up at the parking lot and got ready during the break. Alta is the place for early season turns with the greatest vert reward for the mellow hike.

If you follow the pack your bound to get tracked out turns…and a stinky hike if they have ate Mexican or Thai in the last 12 hours…

Since I was late getting up there I rushed two runs, and those were for the powder slut inside every skier. After that it was time to hike a little higher and get some more vert. With a ton of smiles and powder grins for miles, I along with the rest of the people that I traveled up the canyon with decided to call it a day. With that day over I thought that my need for turns was cured at least until the bull wheels started spinning in a few weeks. The problem was that I need more. I decided a couple days later to head back up for more turns. I got up and pushed for the top of baldy. The hike started like many in the GMD Parking lot with only a few die hards and others that were just looking for a way to keep busy. I didn’t bring my camera this time figuring that I suck at taking pictures and that a gopro would say more than a few photos. Although I didn’t make it to Main Chute like I had planned I still made it about three quarters of the way up baldy. When it is nipple deep and you are boot packing it is usually a good time to start the down trek. The turns up high were okay and down low it was starting to get a little sticky. With a long hike done I think that I can be okay with hanging in the valley until the bullwheels at the resorts start to spin. Or until the next good sized storm hits….

Hoping that the weather changes soon and I can get some more pow up LCC sooner that later.

When friend call you at 7am it can only mean two things. Either you messes up really bad the night before (done) or a rad adventure is about to occur. Yesterday was the second option. After arguing with an intoxicated Aron, who I have entrusted with the awesome title of Accountabillabuddy!, I reluctantly agreed to go down to the middle of Utah on a canyon experience. Having never done this before, it was to be a total shit show (that option was highly possible considering that Aron and Jake, the tour guide, were still feeling the effects of last night) or completely awesome mind blowing experience. After a late start and no idea where we were actually going we started our decent into Upper Black Box.

What the road to Detroit, I mean hell, looks like….

This route was full of rock scrambling and water walking for the first half of the journey. A little irked at lack of sights I was wanting to get out of the canyon as soon a humanly possible, and because all text about this little journey said that it was a full day hike and that you should start in the morning, and being the geniuses that we were we started at 1 maybe even later… which would mean that we would be arriving back at the car in the dark. Bitching had become the norm and looked like it would continue… It did until we reached the narrows of the canyon.

AHH! THE NARROWS!

Once we hit the narrows the trip transformed from lame to preeetttyyy f***in rad. It made the junk show of the morning well worth it. I really wish that we had more time to mess around in it but thanks to the late start we had to move becasue of the day light problem.

The last section required us to do some swimming. Me being the excellent swimmer that I was made this section easy…and wicked fun. I really suggest that if you get the chance to seize it and go for the trip. It is worth the drive and the walk.

We happened to make it to the road right as the sun was going down. Exhausted wet and stoked on what we just finished Aron and I sent Jake to run for the car. While on the walk back, Aron and I decided that the rocks in the shoes were more painful to walk on than the barren land so goodbye shoes! (I really wish I had a camera at this moment but the lack of light and water were to blame for no pics)

After walking for what seemed like a mile, but more like half of one a nice gentlemen in a Subaru (I thought that was a lesbian mobile, ahhh well he might be hunting for that crowd) pick me and Accountabillabuddy up and gave a us a ride to the car. That man was rad, and being exhausted I put clothes on an passed out which by the way makes traveling happen at light speed. Seeing the lights of SLC (yeah i woke up before we got back that hour of traveling sucked…by the way…) at one in the morning after leaving the comforts of my bed at 8 am made for a long day and rad adventure that I will always take again. Maybe without jake…

101 degree check in

So I know that most skiers don’t check in the summer unless they have a credit card, a caring family, or happen to live near a glacier, or and the famous skiers that make us local ski bums jealous. Well I could live on the east coast (nothing against you east coasters, your all heart with skiing in my book) were my season could have ended months ago. I am blessed enough to live in an area that has a ski area that is running their lifts until late June some most years that I have been out in Utah. (That probably was the crappiest call out that I have ever given to snowbird without actually mentioning their name) So the season ended less than a month ago, and the itch is all ready back. For you ski bums out there you know why. Its trailer season! To see all of them check out freeskier.com or the threads over at tgr for all you movie viewing experience. I don’t have the time or energy to put every link up here so I will let you do the work. Since I do not have a mountain bike to keep my skills sharp until ski season ( It was gripped/ stolen from the university of utah earlier this summer. SLC people if you see a specialized big hit II with a discrete sticker floating around you neighbor hoods send me a shout along with a pic and I will tell you to either kill or stand down) I have invested my time into finishing my education and just general all around awesomnasticy!

To keep the awesomnasticy up I have found that doing everything in your path is the way. A question for the masses: How many of those on the internet have gone on a slurpee tour on 7/11 and grabbed as many free slurpees as possible? Okay how many of you have done that on a tandem? In Salt Lake? Not many… I though so but none the less little stupid things like that make life fun, except for not being able to drink a slurpee for a week…

Like everyone out there still sweating it out, and killing it every day all day.

So it has been a little while since I have written here, and I know that most of you know why. Here is a condensed version of the last two months. Kirkwood was a shit show, came back cleaned up, and I am in the process of fixing my life. Hell froze over, my bike got stolen, started school, have two pinkies that still work and a new tattoo. Almost forgot that I walked at graduation (didn’t quite graduate yet but all the hyphy kids are doing it so why not I thought) Then got bored and added another exclamation point to my name (Five is the new four, people) There you go if you want more ask me, and if you want to know what I am doing go to 4frnt.com and see how special I am, and how close I am to getting gingervitis.

So quick recap… Traveled to kirkwood with Bragg, Jakecast.com, McKenna Petersen, Crystal Rose-Lee, and Lexi Dupont. Had to bring the t-shirts, got a ticket on the way there, made it checked in, Skied Pow,snowed 12 inches over night, they all competed the next day on a blower course, big as seen by

So I have been told that to make it as a skier on the professional marks these days you need to have one of these magic things called a blog. This is me giving it a shot. The winter this year has been more miss than hit. First of no job should equal more skiing but because living is so expensive, it has been more looking for work than skiing, and because the pow has decide that the wastch valley was taking too much of it the past few years that she needed to distribute it to other ski areas the abundance of it at snowbird has been minimal. But other than that ripping hard pack in snowbird has been interesting. It has made me a better craver and a better switch skier with sponsers giving me grief that I am not producing pictures… But the days that are deep are also pretty good for for soul skiing, like this mini edit from a month ago…

So to them I am sorry that I ski powder in a place that is lacking it right now,. when it comes I can guarantee that I will do my best to look good in it. That enough ranting and raving about the lack of it, because skiing is still skiing and a bad day of skiing is still better than a good day without it.

The last weekend I had the pleasure of traveling to my former home of Crested Butte and try and compete in the 19th Extreme Freeskiing Championships.I hit the road with fellow skier Mckenna Peterson on Tuesday. The weather when we arrived on Tuesday was only described as brutal, Dethklok brutal. (For those of you who dont know that is REALLY BRUTAL). Luckly enought I have the privilage of not having to ski the quailifer any more and it allowed me to work with the MSI video crew to give them a small run down of the day on venue of Staircase, this also allowed me to look at what I was getting into the next day…

Competitors were skiing rock, after it they were skiing pow on top of rock…but still it amount to a bitchin’ time with grif post taking the top spot for the men, and Claudia taking the top spot fot the women. Mark laid down a run that would kill for the covet sick bird buckle… welcome to the flock buddy. Time to head back to Utah and get ready for the k-wood and snowbird which happen to be more my style. for those who are word impared here is a vid of the top guys spots…

The party went off and I will post pics as soon as I get the one that are safe for the internet crew
